Forestry Hall of Fame Member Peter deMarsh

Woodlot champion Peter deMarsh continues to receive honours posthumously for his outstanding achievements and prominence in forestry. Recently, deMarsh was elected into the New Brunswick Hall of Fame to recognize his major contributions to forestry. Visiting New Brunswick this summer? The Hall of Fame is located in the Woodmen’s Museum in Boiestown, New Brunswick.

The staff and Board of the NBFWO would like to send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Pam Folkins who passed away this week.

Pam was a member of the Federation, a past Manager at the SNB Forest Products Marketing Board, and was with the SNB Wood Co-operative for 47 years. We all had great respect for Pam. She was intelligent, resilient, and had a smile that made you feel welcome.

The private woodlot sector has lost a great champion and friend. Rest in peace Pam. We will miss you.

On May 9th, our Executive Director, Susannah Banks participated in the Forum on Forests held by the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers in St. Andrew's, NB. This meeting brought together federal and provincial forest ministers as well as several stakeholders from the Canadian forest sector (forest owners, First Nations members, forest industry, conservation groups, certification organizations, and more) to discuss national policies regarding the management of Canada's forests.

NB Forest Products Commission position opening

Are you a woodlot owner / producer that is interested in the NB’s forest sector and advocating for landowner & producer interests?

The New Brunswick Forest Products Commission is an independent commission overseeing the marketing relationships involving forest industries (pulp mills and sawmills); forest products marketing boards (private woodlot owners and producers) and the provincial government.

The commission, composed of seven members, reports directly to the Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Development. It has an independent chairman, two persons representing forest industries – one for pulpmills and one for sawmills, two persons representing private woodlot owners and producers, and two persons representing the Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development.

One of the current owner/producers candidates term on the Commission will soon be expiring.

New Brunswick Environment and Climate Change (ECC) is proposing to convert the tire recycling program to using the Extended Producer Responsibility model under the Designated Materials Regulation (Clean Environment Act).......

Short version:  the government is proposing changes to regulations so that all tires - including off-road ones - will be included in the provincial tire recycling program.  They are seeking comments on the proposed changes.
