CFO SUPPORTS UNIVERSITÉ LAVAL RESEARCHER WHO IS USING INNOVATION TO HELP FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE
Canadian Forest Owners (CFO) is proud to award its $15,000 Peter deMarsh Memorial Bursary to Université Laval researcher Sanjoy Roy whose boreal forest research is aimed at increasing carbon storage while providing wood to meet Canada’s material and energy needs. Roy’s forest modeling work will provide an important decision-making and support tool for CFO members because it addresses sustainable forest management and timber production while ensuring ecosystem resilience in our changing climate.

Consultation on emerald ash borer management in Canada
With most of the ash (Fraxinus spp.) population being infested in Eastern Canada and the pest continuing to spread, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) intends to reevaluate its management strategy for the emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis), and consult with partners, industry, stakeholders and Indigenous Peoples on the best way forward.
The risk management document (RMD-25-01) outlines 4 options for managing EAB in Canada that are proposed for consultation. The CFIA supports option 2, which expands the regulated area to include entire provinces in Eastern Canada where EAB is already present.
The CFIA will review the feedback received through this consultation and make a final decision in early 2026. Any resulting changes are expected to be implemented in March 2026.

Public consultations to help update Clean Water Act
FREDERICTON (GNB) – The government is inviting New Brunswickers to share their ideas on how the Clean Water Act could be improved.
Industry groups, environmental organizations, First Nations and the public can all take part in shaping new legislation that matches the needs and values of their communities.
“Our government is committed to ensuring New Brunswick waters remain clean, now and for future generations,” said Environment and Climate Change Minister Gilles LePage. “We want to hear a variety of perspectives to ensure the updated legislation has a lasting positive impact for all New Brunswickers.”
A consultation webpage offers background information, an overview of the review process and instructions on how to participate virtually or in person.
Written submissions will be accepted until Nov. 27. People will also have a chance to learn more and share feedback through in-person and virtual consultation sessions.

FEEDBACK REQUESTED: New Brunswick Tire Recycling Program – Modernization Project 2025
From the Waste Diversion (Branch), Environment and Local Government, GNB:
Environment and Climate Change is reinitiating engagement with key interested parties regarding a proposal to modernize our current provincial tire recycling program that manages passenger and truck tires at their end-of-life. The modernization scope is to convert the program to using the nationally recognized extended producer responsibility model and expand the program to include off-the-road tires. Environment and Climate Change has prepared a Consultation Document which outlines the proposed key elements of a modernized program.
As a key stakeholder in this process, we invite you to share with your members and provide feedback on the attached Consultation Document by September 26, 2025. Feedback may be submitted to me by email at mark.miller@gnb.ca.
