Clarification on restrictions and permitted activities from DNR (Aug 25):
Most restrictions that were placed on Crown lands [and private lands] due to the high risk of wildfires will be removed at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday [August 26]. A burn ban, however, will remain in place.
With the exception of areas near active forest fires,
-
Crown lands will be re-opened for recreational and industrial activities.
-
Restrictions will remain for timber harvesting, which will only be allowed between the hours of 6 p.m. and noon to avoid the hottest and driest portion of the day. This will be reassessed on a daily basis.
-
Other forestry operations, including planting, site preparation, and thinning will not have a time restriction.
-
Regional offices of the DNR will reopen to the public on Tuesday, except for the one in Miramichi.
If you received a permit from DNR during the previous restriction period, please contact them again to get a new permit that outlines the new criteria.
No activity will be allowed in an active fire zone.
Contact your local office of the Department of Natural Resources, or call 1-833-301-0334, should you have questions.
Up-to-date information on wildfire risks and burn bans is available at GNB.ca/FireWatch
People can mitigate the wildfire situation by obeying the burn ban, reporting wildfires, not smoking in the woods and using all-terrain vehicles responsibly.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to check the daily burn notice to see the current status in their area.
